The hunt for Green Bay's next educational leader is heating up! After a thorough, nationwide search, the Green Bay Area Public School District has narrowed its field to just two exceptional finalists vying for the pivotal role of superintendent. This is a critical decision that will shape the future of education for thousands of students, and the community is being invited to play a direct role in the selection process.
But here's where it gets interesting: The district isn't just making this decision behind closed doors. They're actively encouraging public engagement, offering families, students, staff, and all community members a chance to meet the candidates face-to-face. Think of it as a crucial 'audition' where you, the community, get to ask the tough questions!
Meet the Finalists:
- Michael Hernandez: Currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent for the Appleton Area School District. He brings valuable experience from a neighboring district, which could offer a unique perspective on regional educational challenges and opportunities.
- Dr. Michael E. Trimberger Jr.: The current Superintendent of the School District of Random Lake. His leadership in a different district provides a fresh set of experiences and approaches that could benefit Green Bay.
Your Chance to Connect:
Both candidates will be participating in a "Day in the District," culminating in public "Meet & Greet" sessions. This is your prime opportunity to gauge their vision, leadership style, and how they plan to address the specific needs of Green Bay's diverse student population. Remember to come prepared with your questions, as attendees are encouraged to submit them in writing to the moderator. This ensures that all queries are addressed thoughtfully.
- Michael Hernandez's Meet & Greet: Scheduled for Wednesday, March 4th, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the old library of West High School on Shawano Avenue.
- Dr. Michael E. Trimberger Jr.'s Meet & Greet: Will take place on Thursday, March 5th, also from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the same location: the old library of West High School on Shawano Avenue.
A Look Back at the Journey:
This intensive search began in February 2024 following the resignation of Superintendent Claude Tiller. Vicki Bayer then stepped in as the interim superintendent, a role she filled admirably before being officially named superintendent in December 2024. However, the district is now embarking on a new chapter, as Bayer announced her retirement in October 2024.
And this is the part most people miss: While the district has conducted a nationwide search, the ultimate success of a new superintendent often hinges on their ability to connect with and understand the local community. Do you believe a superintendent from outside the immediate Green Bay area can truly grasp the unique dynamics and needs of our schools, or is an insider's perspective more valuable? Share your thoughts below â we'd love to hear your take on what makes the ideal superintendent for Green Bay!
